Zonta Clubs of Teaneck-Bergenfield host Young Women’s Invitational Symposium at Fairleigh Dickinson University

Bergenfield The Zonta Clubs of Bergen County held its second annual Young Women’s Invitational Symposium on March 20, 2004. The program’s theme was “Visions…they come from inside” which focused on positive body image. The Fairleigh Dickinson University Alumni Office co-sponsored the event which took place at the Teaneck campus Student Union Buidling.

The program consisted of a talk by keynote speaker Caroline Gundeck, First Vice President , Investments, and Director of Women’s Business Development for Merrill Lynch. Workshops and roundtable discussions were conducted by Lydia Pizzute, Director of the Bergen County Rape Crisis Center, Rachel Reed, Assistant Director and Clinical Director of the Bergen County Rape Crisis Center, Carol Redden, R.N, of Pascack Valley Hospital’s Positive Image Program, Carol Sprague and Kathi Viola of the Girl Scouts of Bergen County, Nancy Grahamof the Renfrew Center, Halina Dour, S.B.B., and Nancy Ellson, Holy Name Hospital.

The program, which is free of charge, was attended by seventy junior and senior high school students from all over Bergen County. The invitations are extended to all high schools in the county and the selection of students is left to principals and guidance directors.

The Zonta Clubs of Bergen County are actually two separate entities, the Zonta Club of Hackensack-Ridgewood and the Zonta Club of Teaneck-Bergenfield, local affiliates of Zonta International, a service organization of professional women who work to improve the status of women on both the local and global level. Zonta International is an NGO at the United Nations and sponsors programs through UNICEF and UNIFEM.

The program is completely funded by grants. This year’s grantors were ABC Television, Fleet Bank, Mediafield, Palermo Plumbing Supply and several private donors. The website for the event may be found at www.zonta-tea-berg.org/ywis2004.
