Zonta Club of Northern Valley, NJ installs new officers and distributes financial grants

The Zonta Club of Northern Valley, at its May 16, 2006 meeting, issued financial grants totaling more than $18,000 to the following groups and organizations: Institute for Educational Achievement, Women’s Rights Information Center, The York Street Project, The Vantage Health System, Friends for Life, UGALS, The American Association of University Women Education Foundation and Tomorrow’s Children. The club also awarded 3 high school scholarships and one adult scholarship.

Two other recipients of grants were the Bergen County Rape Crisis Center and Shelter Our Sisters, Bergen County’s shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. The Zonta Club of Northern Valley New Jersey’s Annual R.A.V.E. Walk (Rape and Violence Eradication) funds both these grants. All monies collected go directly to these two worthy organizations.

The Zonta Club of Northern Valley New Jersey’s fundraising efforts culminate each May with the granting of all funds raised to organizations that, in some way, further its mission, which is to enhance the status of women and children, both globally and locally. The club also contributes to international projects of Zonta International which partners with such United Nations organizations as UNICEF and UNIFEM.

At the same meeting, the Zonta Club of Northern Valley, NJ installed its new club officers for the 2006-2008 biennium. Installed were Kathy Holmes, President; Karen Nicodemus, First Vice President; Ruth Weaver, Treasurer; Marilyn Petersen, Secretary, as well as three directors, Rashida Cassubhai, Andrea Pieper and Nancy Patrissi. The Club’s Foundation (Zonta of Teaneck-Bergenfield Foundation, Inc.) also installed new officers and board members: Marilyn DeFeo, president, Carol Parker, Treasurer, Marianne Jacobs, secretary and Kathy Banca and Kathy Holmes, directors. The new officers are looking forward to two years of service to the mission of Zonta.
