Northern Valley: The Zonta Club of Northern Valley NJ celebrates the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote by sponsoring the showing of the HBO film, "Iron-Jawed Angels", starring Academy Award winner Hillary Swank as Alice Paul at the Englewood Library on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. The HBO film portrays the true story of how activists Alice Paul (a New Jersey resident), Lucy Burns and other women risked their lives in an effort to advance the women's suffrage cause.

In viewing the movie "Iron Jawed Angels," viewers will see dramatized a small segment of the suffrage movement.  The women of the United States won a hard fought battle to attain suffrage.  The "fight" began in 1848 and women were granted the right to vote 72 years later.  It is the duty of every woman to exercise her right to vote.  The Zonta Club of Northern Valley is proud to join with the Englewood Library in sponsoring this event.

Zonta, an organization devoted to benefitting the lives of women both locally and nationally, encourages women to vote in this crucial election year.   The fight for women's suffrage was hard won and women can honor their foremothers by their votes.

For more information about the viewing, contact Judith Liebman of Zonta at 201-488-1346 or Dick Burnon, Director of Programming at Englewood Library, at 201-568-2215.
